Koch Chemie TexLock: The Fabric Protectant That Locks Out Stains

Koch Chemie TexLock is the long-lasting fabric and textile protectant from the Koch Chemie The Finisher line, engineered to shield car interior upholstery, headliners, carpet and fabric trim against spills, stains, dye transfer from clothing and UV fading. Developed in the Koch Chemie laboratories in Unna, Germany, TexLock forms an invisible breathable barrier that repels liquid contamination on contact, giving you precious seconds to wipe before a spill becomes a permanent stain.

Where untreated fabric absorbs coffee, soda and food spills directly into the fibers, TexLock causes liquids to bead and sit on the surface long enough to blot away cleanly. The German formulation does not stiffen the fabric or change its texture, but adds protection that lasts months between applications. Apply after LeatherTexClean for a complete fabric care workflow: clean first with LeatherTexClean, protect after with TexLock.

Why Detailers Trust TexLock

  • Hydrophobic fabric barrier: liquids bead on the surface instead of soaking into the fibers, buying time to clean before staining sets in.
  • Stain resistance: coffee, wine, soda, food spills and dye transfer from jeans wipe off cleanly when the fabric is treated.
  • UV protection: blocks the photo-degradation that fades dark fabric and weakens fiber structure over years of sun exposure.
  • Breathable formulation: does not stiffen the fabric or change its texture, the material continues to feel and behave like factory upholstery.
  • Multi-fabric safe: works on woven fabric, microsuede, Alcantara, carpet, headliner and synthetic upholstery.
  • Made in Germany: formulated and bottled in Koch Chemie's own laboratories in Unna.

How to Use Koch Chemie TexLock

  1. Clean the fabric first with LeatherTexClean (or another fabric cleaner) and allow the surface to air-dry completely. Applying TexLock over dirty fabric traps contamination underneath the protection.
  2. Vacuum the area to remove any loose dust or fibers.
  3. Hold the spray nozzle about 15 to 20 cm from the fabric surface and apply TexLock in light, even coats with overlapping passes.
  4. Cover the entire surface evenly without saturating any single spot. The fabric should look slightly darker when wet but return to its natural colour as it dries.
  5. Allow the first coat to dry for 30 to 60 minutes.
  6. For maximum protection, apply a second coat using the same technique. Two thin coats outperform one heavy application.
  7. Allow the treated fabric to cure for 4 to 6 hours before normal use. For maximum durability, avoid sitting on freshly treated upholstery for 24 hours.

Pro tip: apply TexLock every 3 to 4 months on daily-driven vehicles to maintain hydrophobic performance. For garage-kept weekend cars, every 6 months is sufficient. Re-application is faster than the first treatment because the previous coats build cumulative protection.

Important: never apply TexLock to fabric that still has cleaner residue or moisture. The protective layer needs a clean dry surface to bond properly. Wait until the fabric is completely dry before application.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does fabric upholstery need a protectant?
Untreated automotive fabric absorbs spills, oils and dye transfer directly into the fiber structure, creating stains that are difficult or impossible to fully remove. TexLock creates a hydrophobic surface barrier that causes liquids to bead instead of soak, buying critical seconds to blot away spills before they penetrate. Over the lifetime of a vehicle, regular fabric protection dramatically reduces stain accumulation.

Will TexLock stiffen my fabric or change its texture?
No. The breathable formulation absorbs into the fiber structure without coating the surface. The fabric retains its natural softness, breathability and visual character. The only noticeable change is improved liquid resistance.

Can I use TexLock on Alcantara?
Yes. TexLock is safe on Alcantara and microsuede. Apply lightly with multiple thin coats rather than one heavy application. After drying, brush the Alcantara nap gently with a soft brush to restore the natural texture.

What is the difference between TexLock and LeatherLock?
TexLock is for fabric and textile surfaces. LeatherLock is for leather and vinyl. Both create protective barriers but use chemistry tuned for the very different surfaces of fabric versus leather. Use TexLock on upholstery fabric, headliner and carpet. Use LeatherLock on leather seats and vinyl door panels.

Should I apply TexLock to brand-new fabric upholstery?
Yes. New fabric is the ideal time to apply protection because the fibers are clean and unstained. Treating new upholstery with TexLock before any spills accumulate provides the longest possible protective benefit.

Where is TexLock made?
Koch Chemie TexLock is formulated and bottled in Germany by Koch Chemie GmbH at their headquarters in Unna. The Rag Company Europe is an authorised dealer of the Koch Chemie The Finisher line for Europe.

My all time fave sunscreen!
Scent: Fragrance Free, Size: 1.7 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
This is the best sunscreen! Does NOT burn my eyes like 95% of other sunscreens do. Does NOT break out my sensitive skin, or my sister who has the most sensitive skin ever! It goes on smoothly due to its nice texture, does NOT feel greasy. Wears great under foundation as well. Thank you Coola for such a great formula at an affordable price. I have turned so many 'sunscreen snobs' into fan favorites of this as well. If you haven't tried it, you should!

good for non-white skin
Scent: Fragrance Free, Size: 1.7 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
Moisturizing, non-sticky, works for my sensitive skin. It's transparent and doesn't leave a white cast on my light brown skin. Smallish size is good for travel and purse. It's a little shiny; wish it came in matte.

Very effective
Scent: Fragrance Free, Size: 1.7 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I love this sunscreen for your face. It doesn’t feel oily. It doesn’t stay white on your skin. It absorbs and it really protects it nicely. I put it on every morning before I walk my dog in the sun and I’m out for normally at least an hour so it’s a really nice sunscreen and I would definitely give it a try.

Lightweight, clean, and effective — worth the repurchase
Scent: White Tea, Size: 1.7 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
This is my go-to daily sunscreen. It’s lightweight, non-greasy, and absorbs quickly without leaving a white cast. I love that it’s made with clean ingredients and doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin. The white tea scent is subtle and fresh. I’ve repurchased this several times now — it’s one of the few sunscreens I actually enjoy using.

Great replacement for my discontinued Epionce sunblock
Scent: White Tea, Size: 1.7 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I really hate it when companies discontinue great products, and even though it cost a fortune, I loved the Epionce mineral sun block for faces. When I realized it was gone, I looked at the Coola line because I like their other products. Found this face sunblock for $32 (this could be 1/3 of the Epionce, certainly 1/2) and have used it for the past few weeks playing golf. So far, so good! I'm not noticing any color, certainly no burn. No irritation, and the scent is quite mild, only noticeable when it's first applied (IMO, and I'm pretty sensitive to scents). I really like that Coola has the Hawaii reef-safe designation, which I think is very important for all sunscreens, even when we're not going swimming in the ocean. As a friend pointed out to me once, even if you don't swim in the ocean, you go home and take a shower and all those chemicals wash down the drain and make their way eventually through the system, so might as well just not use them in the first place! Yes, it's more expensive using products like this, but IMO it's worth it. I also wear sun sleeves these days so I don't have to use as much sunscreen when I'm out on the golf course. Editing this to say that this product has avobenzone, which is actually not so great and may be banned in Hawaii by next year. Hmm. Guess I'll keep searching!
